What is relationship counseling?
Relationship counseling is mainly related to couples married or in a relationship. People and in turn their relationships are becoming more and more complicated in the current scenario. Every relationship goes through issues, conflicts and problems. However if these problems or conflicts do not get resolved on their own or they are not able to sort it out themselves the couple will need a professional person to resolve it. This type of counseling is called as relationship counseling. The techniques and therapies in relationship counseling are designed and focused on romantic relationships and how these can be improvised. Also it is not necessary that your relationship is undergoing issues and so you go for relationship counseling. Even healthy relationships can go for counseling to ignite the old spark in them or to have a more better relationship.

When to seek relationship counseling?
This type of counseling can be sought at any stage of the relationship. Relationship counseling can be sought by couples who are in good healthy relationship to strengthen their bond. However if you are facing following problems in your relationship then relationship counseling is a must:
- There are constant unresolved fights and differences
- Both of you are unable to clearly and properly communicate how and what you feel in the relationship
- There has been a great stressful event in the relation, abuse, addiction, infidelity etc
- You as a couple are unable to move in one direction in the relationship
- Both of you are finding it difficult to arrive at an important decision concerning your relationship
What to expect in a relationship counseling session?
At Mind Wellness Everyday we generally put forth the following format for both an offline and online session
- First one or two sessions will be related to understanding details about your relationship and the issues pertaining to it. For this the counseling session will be conducted either on individual basis or both persons together. If you are located at different places then taking an online session would be the best way
- In the next session some solutions will be giving by the therapist so that you can implement that in your daily routine. There will be a little gap of few days or weeks to allow you the time to take up the counselors suggestions and practically apply them
- After the said time given you will be again called for therapy session where your feed back will be taken on individual basis and as a couple.
- Further sessions will be conducted depending upon the improvement shown in previous sessions
What is important in relationship counseling?
In relationship counseling it is important that you and your counselor share a comfort bond. This may take a few sessions for some people to open up and talk up the true hidden feelings that are actually creating problems. Hence it is important that you give this some time. It is also essential to have sincerity in improving your relationship before you seek relationship counseling. There will be times when truth will be hard to speak but you need to be honest because otherwise you cannot get the right advice even from the best counselors.
Sometimes only one spouse or person in the relation is wanting to seek counseling but the other does not cooperate. In such a case though it can be difficult to resolve things yet for the person who feels the need to seek counseling should go for the sessions. There could be areas in the relationship that need to be addressed at the end of the person seeking counseling. If after taking the sessions there are improvements in their behavior and attitude towards the partner then there are chances that the other person may also slowly get ready to seek counseling.
Relationship counseling needs to be given sufficient time, effort and sincere honest communication both between the therapist and couples as well as between the couples themselves.
